FAQ - Can I Automatically Send Email to the Trash?

Are you tired of deleting email that has nothing or little to do with Kannapolis City Schools?  Gmail does NOT offer the ability to block certain senders.  However, you can set up a filter to send email automatically to the Trash.

Follow these directions:
  • Open an email from the offender/sender
  • Click the More button and select Filter messages like these
  • Click the link Create a filter with this search.
  • Check the box next to Delete it.
  • Then click the Create Filter button.
Any future email from that particular sender will go directly into the trash folder.  Continuing to use this filter will clean up your email in no time!

You can also set filters to send emails to a particular folder category.  To do that:
  • Open an email from the sender
  • Click the More button and select Filter messages like these
  • Click the link Create a filter with this Search
  • Check the box next to Apply Label
  • Select the Label that you desire
  • Click the Create Filter button.  Your email will automatically go to the selected folder.

(NOTE:  This might be useful for students emailing homework to a teacher. Create a folder for each class, then have students send a test email.  When the email arrives, create a filter for it.  All future homework will go directly into the class folder.)
